ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - Dan Bartholomew
Born in Montréal, Quèbec, Dan Bartholomew moved to Calgary at the age of five.
He began his instrumental training on tuba at the age of 12.
Upon graduating high school Dan completed a degree in music performance with distinction on tuba,
studying with Mike eastep. He has subsequently gone on to complete a degree in education, and diploma in wind conducting,
all from the University of Calgary. In addition to teaching music at Glenmore Christian Academy, Dan is a freelance
tuba player and conductor in the Calgary area. Dan aslo enjoys foreign languages, aviation,
martial arts and telling really bad jokes that nobody laughs at (except for him).
ENSEMBLE FOUNDERS - Andrea Case and Diane Lane
A fourth generation Calgarian musician, Andrea Case has been taking music lessons since age five.
She began to play the cello at age nine after studies in piano and voice. Andrea has a master's degree in cello
performance from McGill University where she studied on scholarship with Antonio Lysy. She has played for and studied with such
pedagogues as Janos Starker, Shauna Rolston, Aldo Parisot, Desmond Hoebig and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi.
Andrea spent spring of 2004 as an artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the arts.
Andrea is a co-founder of trio a.n.d... with banff partners Diane Lane and Nola Shantz.
This piano trio completed a successful Western Canadian tour in May of 2004.
Andrea Case and Diane Lane founded Players late in 2004. This group had been an aspiration of Andrea's for three years.
She is thrilled to be working with Calgary's top young professionals towards innovative and entertaining performances.
Born in Claresholm Alberta, Diane began her violin studies in Lethbridge before attending the Mount Royal Conservatory of Music in Calgary. While studying there she had the privilege of working with many internationally renowned artists.
Diane graduated from McGill University with her Bachelor of Music degree under the tutelage of Yehonatan Berick. During her time in Montreal she had many performance opportunities and played under the direction of, among others, Charles Dutois. Diane continued her studies with Edmond Agopian at the University of Calgary and graduated with a Master's degree in violin performance in 2003.
Since graduating Diane has participated in a number of music festivals and competitions. She spent a term at The Banff Centre as a resident where she collaborated with many celebrated musicians. She has returned to Banff many times since, both as a soloist and chamber musician.
Diane is the co-founder of players chamber music ensemble, which has been featured on CBC radio. She is also a member of the Lily String Quartet. In 2007, Diane attended seminars at The Juilliard School of Music and Stanford University. This 2007/08 season has seen Diane perform for Instrumental Society, CBC Radio, High Performance Rodeo, Neworks Calgary as well as the Ice Magic Festival in Lake Louise. In 2008/09 the Lily String Quartet will embark on a tour of Western Canada.
Diane has adjudicated for a number of festivals in Alberta and is an active orchestral and chamber performer, playing with various ensembles in and around Calgary.
